One year ago today...

At seven am i got the phone call. Jerry had been in an acccident and they didn't know how bad it was. He was just going in for his second brain surgery. I think i knew at that moment that he wasn't going to make it. I cried and cried but couldn't bring myself to go to the hospital yet. I went on my day as normal. Babysitting, getting reay for work, making phone calls.

Tiffany got my shift covered at work so as soon as i was done with everything i went to the hospital. I was alone when i got there and made the mistake of going into his room by myself. I really didn't know what to expect. It was a shock. He was on full life support, his head was wrapped in gauze with drains coming out from underneath. His legs were uncovered so i could see his right knee, swollen and purple. There were monitors everywhere making strange noises. I held his hand, warm like always, and told him to wake up. Like it was just that easy. He coughed and it made an alarm go off. A nurse came in to suction out his lungs, i watched as Jerry gadded and blood came up in the suction tube.

slowly his family and our friends came to the hospital, Kristen, Rob, Amanda and Ravon were the first to come. We just sat and waited. going to his room to see him every once in awhile, but mostly just talking and trying to pretend this had never happened.

One year ago today...

Jerry came to visit me at Crest on his way to his brothers house. He came on the scooter he'd only had for a few weeks and was his favorite thing in the world. We laughed and picked out baby names for Kristen and Rob's baby that they had just found was a boy. Then we made plans for me to stop by his house on my way home from work and he would walk me home. Like we did most nights. Work was a little busy and i missed the opportunity to give him a hug before he left, i realized it too late but thought "i'll just give him one later." I yelled bye to him as he walked out the door. It was the last time i talked to him, or saw the Jerry that i loved. When i drove by his house on my way home and noticed that the scooter wasn't there and just figured that he got hung up at his brothers. I went home and went to bed with no idea that my life had been changed forever.

Around 10 that evening, on his was home from his brothers house as he drove down Geneva Road, a car turned left in front of him, he swerved but didn't make it around. His right knee was smashed in to the back of the car, and his body flew 97 feet before he landed on his head. He spent the night in surgery where most of his temporal lobe was removed, then put into a coma he would never come out of.
